Uvalde City reaches settlements with the families of victims of shootings at school

A lawyer representing the family of the victim of the shooting of the elementary school Mass confirmed to ABC News on Tuesday night that the settlement had been achieved and approved unanimously at the City Council meeting in Uvalde, Texas.

Josh Koskoff, one of the lawyers who filed a lawsuit against the city, did not determine the exact provisions of the settlement.

The lawsuit responded to the situation around the school shooting that occurred on May 24, 2022, claiming the lives of two teachers and 19 students.

In addition to monetary settlement that will be paid by city insurance, families ask Uvalde police to adopt new fitness standards for troop training and increase officers, lawyers are announced at a press conference in May 2024.

At the time of filing a lawsuit, Koskoff told ABC News that the Plaintiff also asked the city to maintain a funeral where many victims were buried and to provide updated accounting about contributions and expenses related to May 24.

The plaintiff also asked to appoint May 24 as an official memory day at Uvalde and make a committee for permanent warnings in the city.

The lawyer confirmed that all 21 victims’ families were represented in the lawsuit, but did not reveal other people registered as plaintiffs.
