Trump tried to postpone the appeal of $ 83 million in the E. Jean Carroll case

The Department of Justice and Lawyer for President Donald Trump on Friday asked the Federal Appeals Court in New York to postpone the oral argument scheduled next week in Trump’s appeal for the defamation case of $ 83 million.
Trump filed an appeal in 2024 who ordered him to pay for a former columnist of E. Jean Carroll $ 83 million in 2019 when he denied his accusation that he committed sexual harassment in the dressing room of a Goodman Department Store in the mid-1990s. Trump has denied all accusations.
On Wednesday, the panel of three judges from the 2nd US Circuit appeal court rejected Trump’s efforts so that the government replaced him as a party in this case-and his lawyer now argued that they must be allowed to appeal before the oral argument took place on June 24.
“The United States and President Trump have the right to immediately review the wrong panel decision from this court and, if necessary, by the Supreme Court,” said a joint submission from Trump and the Department of Justice said Friday.

DOJ’s lawyer said that because some alleged Trump’s behavior in the case was within the scope of his role as president, the Department of Justice must be able to maintain it in court.
“The Attorney General stated that President Trump acted within the scope of the federal office or his job during his statement in 2017, made from the White House, which from him claims the plaintiff-applee appeared. As a result, the United States should be replaced as a defendant at President Trump’s place,” they argued in the Friday file.
The 2nd week circuit last week strengthened the $ 5 million separate damage award for Carroll that Trump had to pay.
