Trump Admin Direct Renewal: ICE must restore the legal status of 133 students on Tuesday

President Donald Trump’s administration has up to 5 pm on Tuesday to restore the legal status of 133 international students, according to an order giving a temporary detention order on behalf of the plaintiff submitted at the US District Court in Georgia on April 18.
The federal judge who oversees this case, Victoria M. Calvert, issued a troch requested on the name of the student, all of which claimed their student status had been revoked illegally.
The lawsuit, filed by ACLU and other groups in the northern district of Georgia, was among some who claimed immigration and customs upholding “suddenly and illegally” ending student records and exchange of visitor information systems, a database used by the Department of Domestic Security to monitor non-immigrant students.

The lawsuit claims that by ending these records, Ice ended the student’s status and making him deported.
“DHS’s actions to end Sevis’s invalid notes seem to be designed to force students, including each plaintiff, to leave their studies and ‘report themselves’ even though they do not violate their status,” the lawsuit said.
Some students represented in the lawsuit almost graduated or registered in the work program.
Many plaintiffs have been charged with traffic violations, and in some cases of minor violations, but then their indictments were canceled. Others, including “Jane Doe #12,” were never arrested or quoted for traffic violations.
Government lawyers argue that providing assistance to students will affect “executive branch control over immigration.”
But the judge was not sure – and ordered the government to inform the court when it had fulfilled. Calvert also ordered the government not to use the Plaintiff’s identity for any reason outside the lawsuit.
The trial was set for Thursday.
