The Navy Academy canceled a speech by Podcaster in the midst of cultural turmoil

The Navy said they canceled the engagement speaking at the Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, with a popular podcaster and writer Ryan Holiday because he wanted to avoid what he saw as a political content aimed at young navy officers.

Holiday, who often talked about the value of stoicism and had written several books, including “The Obstacle is the Way,” said he had planned to talk to midshaps about “Pursuit of Wisdom.”

Holidays say he distributed his slide briefing first with the Navy, which included a reference to the New York Times story about the decision of the new US Navy Academy to attract several people 381 Books From the library. The Navy asked him to eliminate references, and a vacation said he refused.

“The idea that there is a forbidden topic or that they cannot handle it unreasonably on his face,” Holiday told ABC News.

“The Navy Academy is an Apolitis institution,” he added. “This is focused on the development of Midshipmen morally, mentally and physically to process honorable leaders, create a culture of excellence and prepare future officers for military service.”

Holiday said the Navy did not give him guidance before the speech and that he did not see his presentation politically because he did not tell midshipmen how to choose. He said it should not be surprising for the Navy that he wanted to discuss the latest events.

“I assume we have … the standard of academic independence,” Holiday said.

The Navy withdrew the books after President Donald Trump ordered the military to stop “promoting, advancing, or instilling theories that were not America, divisive, divided, discriminatory, radical, extremist, and irrational.”

Included in the list of books deleted from the Academy Library is “I know why the birds that are locked up sing” by Maya Angelou and “How to Be A Antiracist” by Ibram X. Kendi.

Separate visits to the academy by the filmmaker Ken Burns were also canceled recently, although the cancellation did not seem to be bound to disputes about content. A Burns spokesman said the documentary winner had planned to meet personally with faculties and staff at the end of this month and now hoped to visit schools in October.
