Slotkin in the Democratic Division: ‘We are like the solar system without the sun’

Senator Democrat Elissa Slotkin gave a blunt assessment of what was wrong with her party on Thursday.
Slotkin expressed frustration with how he said the Democratic party “was different,” letting itself be divided by internal disagreement.
“We are like the solar system without the sun … we do not act as a team, and when we do not work as a team, we turn on our weapons with each other, and so, so, in vain,” he said in a speech at the Center for American Progress.
Asked after his speech by ABC News Live Anchor Linsey Davis whether he had trust in the minority leader of the Chuck Schumer Senate and Minority Leader of Hakeem Jeffries, Slotkin refused to answer.

“They are the leaders of the DPR and Senate,” he said. “I work with them every day. I encourage them every day, especially in the Senate. I think they will prove it. And we need to work as a team, and we need a war of war that will bring us there because of what happens in this country. And there is no announcement.
Slotkin characterizes a central division within the party as between those who see the second Trump government as “existential threat to democracy” and will actively refuse, and those who see it as “bad, but like the first Trump government: can survive.”
“Progressive label, medium, whatever – it’s less relevant. This is a battle or flight,” Slotkin said. “I think we are spinning behind a closed door to find out which camp can win.”
Slotkin encourages his party to focus their priority on the most struggle Americans. The shrinking middle class is “the biggest security threat to the US,” he said.
“I believe deep in my bone that if we lose our middle class and, because of associations, American dreams, we will lose our democracy and finally our country,” Slotkin said.
In his speech, intended to present “a new vision for the Democratic Party”, Slotkin put plans to focus on the problem of affordability and “wallet”. During his speech, he said Democrats needed to “return to the base -basic”, which included creating more and better jobs, an affordable choice in education, and building more housing.
When the Democratic Party sought a message that would resonate with voters after the loss in the 2024 election, Slotkin emerged as a vote that proposed the road ahead for the party. Slotkin won the Republican candidate Mike Rogers with 0.34 points of the percentage last November in the state that President Donald Trump won with more than 1 percentage point.
“In multi -ethnic democracy like us, when people do not feel like they can advance, when the system is cheated against them, they begin to blame people who don’t look like them, or who sound different, or who pray differently. That’s how we start to tear each other other than inside,” Slotkin said. “So to attack the threat, we need to return the government to the basis of what is designed to do.”
“And for me, the fundamentals are as follows: work that pays enough to save every month; schools that prepare children for the work; homes that you can call yourself; safety and safety of fear; energy to provide power to our lives; and the environment to continue to our children; and truly health care you can buy,” he added.
Slotkin highlights the impact of artificial intelligence as a field that will require wholesale changes on how the government approaches work and education.
“We need to invest a lot in certification programs, community universities, trade and internships. The key for that is to take a dynamite stick to our federal labor training program. Explosion,” Slotkin said. “We must harmonize all programs around one goal: Train and train people again for the future economy.”

Slotkin other areas discussed are housing costs and the need to build more homes. He said the country needed 4 million houses to catch up with what he called “Emergency Housing.”
“The one -the biggest thing that holds us back is overlapping and housing regulations that are outdated … we need to streamline the rules that hold the builders from building a house, federal program and state, but also incentives for the community to change zoning laws that prevent corruption,” Slotkin said.
Speaking of health care costs, he believes that the contribution of special interest campaigns and lobbying is a key factor that prevents politicians from lowering prices.
“We have to pursue special interests that keep our health care prices high,” Slotkin said. He added that the perception that special interests influenced the decision of politicians contribute to some of the voters who believed “this system is disabled” as a whole. “I think you should have a radical ethical package and money reform to even start repairing the ship.”

Asked what he took from the alleged victory of the Zohran Mamdani Assembly in New York in New York Democratic Majoral Primary on Tuesday, where progressive candidates gained more votes the first choice than former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, Slotkin said the priority of voter voters was clear.
While Mamdani runs a campaign with the same endless economic focus as Slotkin’s “war plan”, he shamelessly embraces progressive attitudes, including city grocery stores.
“People, like in November, are still really focused on the cost and economy, and the mathematics of their own kitchen table, and they are looking for new generations of leadership,” Slotkin said. “This strengthens that you might not agree on some of the main problems, but understand that people are worried about their family budget, it is a unifying thing for the coalition.”
