‘Make-up Emergency’: Democrats try to block Trump tariffs in Canada

President Donald Trump on Tuesday asked the senate to maintain the United States tariff in Canada – a few hours before the Democrats in the upper room have the potential to force voting aimed at blocking the president from imposing tariffs in allied countries.
Democrat Sens. The Kainke, Amy Klobuchar and Mark Warner team led efforts to end the international emergency-called Kainke as “made up”-that Trump has stated to Canada, thereby changing the authority of his government to unilaterally impose tariffs. Trump has gained his authority to impose a tariff by declaring a national emergency caused by Fentanyl and Migration Non -Documents from Canada, Mexico and China. But Democrats now challenge the emergency status.
“President Trump said that there was an emergency with Canada. Canada is a friend not an enemy. Canada is a sovereign country not the 51st country,” Kainke said, Tuesday.
It happens only one day before Trump’s tariff in Canada is expected to apply as part of the “Liberation Day” – President’s plan to launch a sweeping rate which he said would have an impact “all countries.”

On Tuesday, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney vowed to respond with retaliation rates if Trump slapped additional levies on Canadian goods as part of the expected tariff announcement on Wednesday.
Trump said in a social media post that the US “made progress to end this terrible Fentanyl crisis” which he claimed came from Canada, and said that “Republicans in the Senate must choose to keep the national emergency in place, so that we can finish work, and end the scourge.”

During a press conference on Tuesday, Democrats argued that Trump mistakenly imposed an emergency to provide protection for tariffs in the hope of increasing income to pay for his tax cuts. That’s why they say this voice is very important.
Trump criticizes Kainke because of his role in an effort to block tariffs.
“Don’t let Democrats have victory. It will destroy the Republican Party and, far more important, for the United States,” Trump wrote.
Unlike most laws in the senate, this resolution will only require a majority of simple votes to be passed, and very possible. Only a handful of Republicans are needed to reach that threshold.
But no one forced the DPR, controlled by the Republican party, to take the law, and it was almost certain that DPR Speaker Mike Johnson would stay away from the resolution.
Senate voting can be pushed to Wednesday when the Cory Booker Senator continues the Filibuster that he starts at 7 pm Monday night. Booker protested the national “crisis” that Trump and Elon Musk said.
Some Republican has declared skeptical about Canadian tariffs and now find themselves in difficult places to choose whether to block Trump authorities or vote to try to prevent tariffs.

The majority leader John Thune said on Monday that he was not sure if they would be able to defeat the resolution.
“We will see,” he said. “Obviously, as you know, and I am among this, there are concerns about tariffs in Canada and, you know, what is the main purpose. If it is about Fentanyl and stopping drug trafficking, drug war

Thune said on Tuesday that he hoped “we will have a voice.”
“The president declared an emergency to deal with the Fentanyl – Fentanyl flow to this country, not only from our southern border, but also from the north of us. That is what is meant by an emergency declaration. And what will be done is to cancel it,” he said. “I think the President needs to have a tool available to deal with what I think is a national emergency. And of course, you know, tens of thousands of people are killed in this country every year, because Fentanyl represents that. So I hope we will have a voice.”
