Iran rejects Trump’s request for direct nuclear negotiations, government media reports

London – Teheran has rejected direct negotiations with the United States in its nuclear program, responding to a letter from President Donald Trump, Iranian President Masoud Pezishkian said Sunday, according to the Islamic Republic News Agency.
However, he added, the road for indirect negotiations remained open, the state news agency reported.
“In this response, even though direct negotiations between the two parties were rejected, it has been stated that the road for negotiations is not directly open,” Pezishkian said.

Speaking at a cabinet meeting, Pezashkian stated that Iran’s response to the US Presidential Letter was sent through Oman.
He stressed that Iran never avoided negotiations and blamed the United States for not fulfilling previous commitments, including ending the previous nuclear agreement in Trump’s first term of office in 2018.

It is a violation of commitment that causes problems in this path, which must be handled to restore trust, the letter is underlined, according to Pezishkian.
“This will be an American action that determines whether negotiations continue,” he added.
