Matthew Podolsky, who had agreed to resign, took over to Danielle Sassoon, who in February resigned as a protest over the orders of the Department of Justice to cancel the accusation of corruption against New York Mayor Eric Adams.
Sassoon was named a temporary US lawyer by Trump when the President fired Edward Kim, who took a role during changes in administration.
Trump’s candidate, Jay Clayton, will serve in a temporary capacity of up to four months until it is confirmed by the Senate or appointed by the federal judge in Manhattan. Clayton was the Head of the Securities and Exchange Commission during Trump’s first term of office.
Before leading SEC, Clayton was a partner in the New York Sullivan law firm & Cromwell and work with Wall Street companies and other companies to navigate federal regulations.

Trump tried to install Clayton during his first term of office but the lawyer at that time-As Geoffrey Berman refused to resign until the accompanist General Bill Barr agreed to replace him with a trusted representative.
The new Democrat Senate Chief Chuck Schumer indicated his intention to block Clayton’s nomination of frustration with Trump, who he said “did not have loyalty to the law.”
“Donald Trump has explained that he has no loyalty to the law and intends to use the Department of Justice, the US Lawyer’s office and law enforcement as a weapon to pursue the enemy he feels,” Schumer said in a statement last week. “Bright and depraved political motivation like that is very corrosive towards the rule of law and makes me very skeptical of Donald Trump’s intentions for these important positions. For this reason, I will not return the blue slip for US lawyer nominations for the southern and eastern districts of New York.”
By calling Clayton as a temporary choice, Trump is likely to get his way without placing Clayton through the confirmation process.
After 120 days, judges in the South York southern district can choose to appoint Clayton for the job until there are candidates who are confirmed, and Trump cannot mention the names of others.
