EPA is aiming for the protection of water, air and poison as part of a large -magnifying deregulation campaign

Calling it “The biggest deregulation action in US history,” the Environmental Protection Agency launched a sweeping movement on Wednesday which aims to return to environmental protection and eliminate a number of climate change regulations, several decades in making.

Also among the 31 actions announced by the agency is the review of “carbon social costs,” with Zeldin said that the previous government used a metric to “advance their climate agenda in a way that imposed large costs.”

In 2010, EPA under President Barack Obama at that time released its first estimate for what he called “the social cost of carbon,” or SC-CO2. This metric is intended to capture long -term damage dollars created by carbon dioxide emissions every year.

It is estimated, basically, the cost of damage associated with climate change, including changes in agricultural productivity, human health, property damage from the risk of additional floods, changes in energy costs and other considerations.

The Biden administration then updated the estimation process to include additional factors considerations, which led to an increase in national SC-CO2. In December 2023, Biden EPA renewed the metric at a dramatic level – $ 190 per ton of carbon, compared to the previous administrative estimate of $ 51 per ton.
