Lori Daybell, 51, represented himself in the Phoenix trial. He did not take a stand or call witnesses.

Nicknamed “Doomsday Mom,” Lori Daybell has stated that her brother shot her husband for 13 years, Charles Vallow, in defending himself at his home in Chandler, Arizona, in July 2019. His brother, Alex Cox, died of a natural cause of months after the shooting.

He claimed to be innocent for conspiracy to commit first -level murder.

The prosecutor, meanwhile, said that the shooting was a tactic for Daybell to get rid of her husband who wasolated so that she could get a life insurance policy worth $ 1 million and with her husband at this time, Chad Daybell, whom he married four months after the shooting.

Furthermore, the prosecutor said he begged their “bent” religious beliefs as justification for the murder and gave his brother “religious authority” to kill Vallow because they believed he was possessed by an evil spirit which they called “Ned.”

More than two weeks, the state called more than a dozen witnesses, including other Daybell brothers, Adam Cox, who testified that he was “no doubt” his two siblings conspired to kill Vallow after learning that his brother had shot him fatal.

In its closing argument, Maricopa District Prosecutor Deputy Treena Kay said the evidence at the scene showed that Vallow was not shot to defend himself, but “executed” and the scene was “staged.” She told the text message sent from Lori Daybell to her husband, Chad, seven days after Vallow was killed, discussing her husband’s life insurance policy which has now died. Kay said that, after knowing he was no longer the recipient of the plan, the defendant sent a message to Chad who was “ned” might change it “before we get rid of it.”

Lori Daybell Cross-examined his sister, Adam Cox, during his murder trial at Phoenix, Arizona, April 10, 2025.

The prosecutor also discussed the text message sent by the defendant Alex Cox a few days before the deadly shooting where he said they could “become like nefi,” a prophet in the book of Mormon ordered by God to kill Laban.

“Lori Vallow wants millions of dollars, and he wants Chad Daybell, and he and Alex use the religious beliefs that are twisting they have so they can kill crime, have Charles and ‘be Nefi,'” Kay said.

Three members of the jury who spoke to reporters after the verdict said the proof of text messages in this case stand out when they negotiated. The judges said they did not have knowledge of the previous Daybell Lori Penalty, which was not discussed during the Phoenix trial.

Family members Vallow expressed relief in the guilty verdict.

“I am ready to move,” Vallow’s sister Kay Woodcock told reporters outside the court building.

“This is pushed upon us, and our lives only occur, like Tornado, for a long time,” he said.

Following the guilty verdict, Lori Daybell agreed for some of the burdensome factors in this case, instead of having a judge making findings to them. Among them, he agreed that this was a dangerous violation and involved the existence of the accomplice. When asked whether he agreed that as a result of his behavior, the victim or family of the victim “suffered emotional or financial damage,” he said, “Of course.”

He will be sentenced after another trial that will come at Maricopa County, where he is more accused of planning with his brother Alex Cox to kill Brandon Boudreaux, his ex -husband his niece.

Three months after Vallow’s shooting, Boudreaux called 911 to report that someone drove in a jeep shot towards his vehicle outside his house in Gilbert, Arizona.

He claimed to be innocent in the case.

Both Lori and Chad Daybell were found guilty of the first-level murder of the deaths of their children, Joshua “JJ” Vallow, 7, and Tylee Ryan, 16, who lost months after Charles Vallow was killed. In a separate trial in 2023 and 2024, prosecutors argued that the couple thought children had zombies and killed them so they could be together. Children’s bodies were found in Daybell’s Idaho property in June 2020 after a search for months.

Lori Daybell is currently serving a life imprisonment without a parole for the murder of the two children. He denied killing them.

Chad Daybell was sentenced to death after being punished for killing the two children, as well as his first wife, Tamara Daybell, and now waiting for the execution of Idaho’s death sentence.
