5 possible changes that can withstand Trump's 'big billing' in the Senate

The senate has long indicated that the change in “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” will come, and when the Barel Congress against the deadline of President Donald Trump July 4, the contour of the changes began to form.

Senator met for more than two hours on Wednesday to hear the update from the committee’s seat about the proposed changes in a certain section of the package approved by the DPR. Very few details are locked, but the senator receives a general picture of the general direction taken by the provisions in the bill.

“Imagine the jigsaw puzzle with 3,000 pieces and without pictures. So that’s what we are trying to collect,” said Senator John Kennedy, R-La.

The majority leader of the Senate of the Republic of John Thune along with Senator John Barrasso and Sen Mike Crapo spoke to reporters after meeting with President Trump about what was called the ‘Big Big Rue’ outside the White House in Washington, June 4, 2025.

The majority leader of the Senate John Thune, RS.D., said that the bill would control government costs and place a federal program on a more sustainable fiscal path to a certain level “I think many people never think possible.”

“This will be the biggest reduction in expenses, mandatory expenses, in history, so we work for it,” Thune said to “The Will Cain Show.”

The following is how some of the main provisions of this bill began to form.

BROKEN

Senator John Boozman, R-ARK., Chairperson of the Senate Agricultural Committee, who oversees additional nutritional assistance programs, implies that there will be changes in the bill to reduce the burden on the countries imposed by the DPR Snap Proposal.

Boozman said that unlike the DPR Bill that would require the state to share 5% of SNAP costs, the Senate proposal did not make a distribution of costs, even though countries with a high level of error still had the obligation to share costs.

Work requirements for children’s families to meet the requirements for snaps will also change, now carried out for families with children above 10, not children over 7 years.

Changes in the DPR’s proposal will mean that the savings from the changes in SNAP applied in the bill of around $ 20 billion less than the DPR version, per Boozman.

The majority leader of Senate John Thune responded to questions from the news media when he walked to his office in Capitol in Washington, June 5, 2025.

SALT

DPR Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., Give a centrists house win by raising limits on state and local tax reduction from $ 10,000 to $ 40,000. Senator left a Wednesday meeting which suggested they plan to lower the limit.

The senate has not been united around the new limits, but the senator has signaled the amount will be far below $ 40,000.

“There has never been any numbers discussed specifically other than that the house is 40 years old, and that is a lot. Not surprisingly there is an interest in reducing it,” Senator Kevin Cramer, RN.D.

“Most likely we will do less, and that is the specific,” Senator John Hoeven, RN.D., echoed.

From the Calculus of the Senate GOP, lowering the salt cap is an easy victory because it helps cut the cost of the bill and there is almost no Republican senate from blue countries with very high state and local taxes.

But cutting a salt hat can make a loyal road in the DPR, where a number of centric republican threaten to hold support if the senate touches the hat.

“There is not much interest in the senate to return to Salt,” Thune said during Fox News interview. “After saying that, they need votes in the DPR. We understand that, and we are looking for ways that we can adjust and call those provisions.”

Border funding

Senator Rand Paul, R-Ky., Is one of the largest fiscal eagles of the Senate and, thus, one of the biggest opponents of the bill. He is also the Chairperson of the Senate and Government Affairs Domestic Security Committee and is responsible for mapping the path on the border provisions in the package.

Paul told reporters that he advised to reduce the amount of money allocated for border security.

“I presented my ideas that we should not immediately receive $ 150 billion for border security, that we must see how much wall costs to be built,” Paul said.

Paul said a number of his colleagues came to his way of thinking but he did not win everyone in the room.

“Maybe we can find savings there, but the number of Senator Paul is unrealistic,” said Senator Lindsey Graham, Hospital.C., who set the Senate Budget Committee.

Medicaid

Medicaid change remains an open question.

Thune said he “worked” to get a Republican party in the same yard about the cutting of Medicaid, especially with members such as Senator Josh Hawley, R-ARK., Which made this problem in the sand when it came to support the bill.

“The house is making good efforts, trying to peel back the use of the provider’s tax and the way they have been gamed and used in the past,” Thune said, showing that the tax provider credit credit was manipulated by the population of blue countries.

“And the Senate is trying to build it, but obviously it is a problem we need to have 51 votes in the Senate, they must save 418 in the DPR,” he said, suggested that the Senate could step over the provisions of Hawley. “In the end, this is the right program for reform.

“The things we will do will strengthen and fix it and make it available to whom it is intended,” Thune nose. “It should not be available for illegal immigrants. There are people who do not meet the requirements, healthy men, who have work age ages, there are work requirements attached to him.”

Senator Josh Hawley spoke to the press after giving a voice about the nomination of Michael Duffey to be under the secretary of defense for acquisition and sustainability, June 2, 2025 in Washington.

Energy tax credit

Some senators have hinted that they plan to play with the transfer of the date of the expiration of certain inflation reducing credit.

“There are certain new tools in which businesses have made large capital investments where we easily can extend the runway or a small landing strip for them,” said Cramer. “It came to many things, like when credit kicked versus when it runs out, when it ends.”
