1 of 2 New Orleans Running Prison found in Airbnb after Sheriff received a tip: Police

One of the last two escapes from Jailbreak New Orleans last month was arrested again after six weeks of escape, said the authorities Friday.
Antoine Massey, 33, detained, the US Marshals service has confirmed. He was and was arrested at the residence in New Orleans on Friday night, according to the Louisiana State Police.
Tips from a citizen to the Sheriff Parish Orleans Susan Hutson led law enforcement to the house in the third district of the city, according to the Head of the New Orleans Anne Kirkpatrick.
“He peacefully surrendered to law enforcers who had surrounded the house,” Kirkpatrick said during a press briefing Friday night.

Louisiana state police released Antoine Massey’s photo held in New Orleans on June 27, 2025.

The residence is Airbnb, according to the Louisiana State Police Inspector, Colonel Robert Hodges, who said the authorities were investigating those who might have helped him.
“It is quite clear for the past six weeks, to remain fugitive for that long, he got help – he got help,” Hodges told Briefing.
Earlier this month, Louisiana’s authorities were investigating videos circulating online which seemed to show Massey begging the rapper and President Donald Trump to help him when he was still in the run.
Hutson thanked the public and law enforcement partners for capturing Massey.
“Together, we made this happen, and I am grateful,” he said.

Massey will be transported to “safe state correctional facilities outside the region,” Louisiana State Police said in a press release.
At the time of the escape, Massey was jailed because of the battery of household harassment involving the scraping, theft of motorized vehicles and a parole violation, said the state police said, “Additional accusations might come.”
Massey was among 10 inmates who fled from the Center for Orleans Justice last month, according to the State Police Louisiana.
Derrick Groves, the last escape left, is still free.
“We still have one more,” Kirkpatrick said during the briefing.
Overcoming Groves, he said, “We will catch you. You will be detained. But you still have the choice to surrender peacefully, and we will appeal to you to do it.”
“All of these catches can be done peacefully and that is also the end of the game. We don’t want anyone to get hurt,” he continued.
The authorities have increased prizes for information that led to the arrest of Massey and Groves to $ 50,000 per prisoner last month, as the police said at that time that they were sure they approached the “dangerous” fugitive.

Derrick Groves is displayed in an unpredited booking photo released by the Louisiana State Police.

Groves was sentenced to last year for two accusations of murder second in the 2018 Mardi Gras Day shooting and faced life sentences in prison without the possibility of parole, the prosecutor said. Not related to the case, he also then pleaded guilty to two charges of murder, the record of the online court showed.
His girlfriend, Darriana Burton, was arrested this month for allegedly helping Groves run away, said the authorities. He is suspected of having “active involvement in the escape planning phase,” according to a written statement for his arrest warrant, including delivering “information related to escape” and coordinating communication between Groves and people outside the prison.

Burton is one of more than a dozen people who have been arrested for being suspected of helping the escapes, including other inmates in prison and a prison maintenance worker who is accused of closing water into the toilet that allows the escape to release it.
Three out of 10 prisoners who fled were arrested in New Orleans in the first 24 hours of Jailbreak. Others were arrested on the following days, including in Baton Rouge and Texas.
Hutson said on Friday that Sheriff’s office continued to “harden and modernize” prison after escape.
“We installed a new razor, tightening physical barrier, increasing the locking mechanism,” he said. “This all plays an important role in the safety of residents, staff, and our entire community.”
